St Giles very much welcomes today’s announcement from the Government (25 April 2025) to hold tech companies to account for content which increases young people’s vulnerability to knife crime.
Online harms are a key driver in increasing young people’s vulnerability to a range of issues ranging from knife crime to extreme misogyny. Sanctioning content of this nature is long overdue.
Alongside this, we need to go further and deliver a wider package of measures. These include enhancing services providing mentoring for children at risk, hospital-based support for young victims of violence and using credible role models with lived experience to work with young people.
Violence is a complex issue, and solutions need to be multi-faceted. St Giles is committed to working together to help keep young people and our communities safe.
