Star trainer of over 100 Peer Advisors rewarded

A long-standing member of staff who helps women in prison became professionallyqualified Peer Advisors under the Peer Advisor Programme has been given a prestigious award in recognition of her achievements.

Alison Drew was successfully nominated for an award from the Worshipful Company of Educators. She works as a Trainer Assessor in HMP Send, a women’s prison in Surrey, training the women to become Level 3 qualified Peer Advisors who offer support services to other women in the prison and in the community.

Alison, who has worked for us in HMP Send since 2010 and trained over 100 women in Peer Advisor Programme, was nominated for her passion and drive in developing the programme and the way she has encouraged women who may lack confidence in their abilities to successfully complete the Level 3.

CJ Burge, our SOS+ Co-ordinator who trained as a Peer Advisor under Alison, said: “I would not have gone for this job if it wasn’t for Alison’s reassuring and motivating words – she believed in me when others didn’t. And I can never forget her contribution to making my life better – today, 2 years later – I am still in the job going from strength to strength.”
