Transforming Lives through Advice and Guidance

Transforming Lives through Advice and Guidance

[Welsh Translation]

Last month we celebrated the achievements of learners who completed the Learning to Advise course. The 11-session City & Guilds assured course prepares people for peer-to-peer Advice and Guidance work. It provides a strong foundation for various professional roles by gaining a variety of valuable skills including Client-Facing Skills, Communication, Networking and Active Listening.

This project is based on the Peer Advisor course which was first delivered by St Giles in 2002 at Wandsworth Prison to train people in prison to provide advice and guidance support to other prisoners The Learning to Advise course became a stand-alone quality-assured City & Guilds course in 2020. Between 2020-2024, 1,429 people in England and Wales have completed and been issued Learning to Advise certificates.

Learners have come through the course through the Gwent BOOST Project, a five-year National Lottery-funded, multi-organisational initiative. Led by The Wallich, St Giles delivers the Gwent BOOST Project in partnership with Cyfannol Women’s Aid, Welsh Refugee Council, Co-production Network for Wales, MEL Research, Tai Pawb and NHS Wales (AHUHB).

Certificates were awarded to learners from different cohorts, with many progressing to the Level 3 NVQ in Advice and Guidance. Additionally, we celebrated those who completed the Teaching Assistant Certification offered in collaboration with Welsh Refugee Council and Adult Learning Wales.

“Through engagement with the team at the Boost Hub, ladies from across Gwent have worked hard to gain the confidence, new skills, and knowledge of working in the advice and guidance sector.”

– Gillian Wilde, BOOST Hub Team Leader

The Learn to Advise course aims to equip individuals with professional qualifications and practical experience to support those facing challenges such as poverty, the criminal justice system and exploitation. The goal is to empower learners to become role models and create positive change in their communities. Congratulations to the learners on their hard work and achievement!

“It is wonderful to have my efforts formerly acknowledged by being presented with my certificate, I felt very proud.”

– Learning to Advise Learner

“Completing the Learning to Advise course wasn’t just about reaching the finish line – it was about embracing every challenge and coming out stronger and wiser on the other side. The course has given me the confidence to inspire and support others to make positive changes in their lives, just as I have done with my own.”

Trawsnewid Bywydau drwy Gyngor ac Arweiniad

Fis diwethaf, gwnaethom ddathlu cyflawniadau dysgwyr a gwblhaodd y cwrs Dysgu i Gynghori. Mae’r cwrs City & Guilds 11 sesiwn yn paratoi pobl ar gyfer gwaith Cyngor ac Arweiniad i gymheiriaid. Mae’n darparu sylfaen gadarn ar gyfer rolau proffesiynol amrywiol drwy ddysgu amrywiaeth o sgiliau gwerthfawr, gan gynnwys Sgiliau Wynebu Cleientiaid, Cyfathrebu, Rhwydweithio a Gwrando Gweithredol.

Mae’r prosiect hwn yn seiliedig ar y cwrs Cynghorydd Cymheiriaid a gyflwynwyd gyntaf gan St Giles yn 2002 yng Ngharchar Wandsworth i hyfforddi pobl yn y carchar i ddarparu cefnogaeth â chyngor ac arweiniad i garcharorion eraill. Daeth y cwrs Dysgu i Gynghori yn gwrs annibynnol City & Guilds yn 2020. Rhwng 2020 a 2024, mae 1,429 o bobl yng Nghymru a Lloegr wedi cwblhau tystysgrifau Dysgu i Gynghori.

Mae dysgwyr wedi dod drwy’r cwrs drwy Brosiect BOOST Gwent, menter amlsefydliadol pum mlynedd a ariennir gan y Loteri Genedlaethol, dan arweiniad Wallich. Dan arweiniad The Wallich, mae St Giles yn darparu Prosiect BOOST Gwent mewn partneriaeth â Chymorth i Ferched Cyfannol, Cyngor Ffoaduriaid Cymru, Rhwydwaith Cydgynhyrchu Cymru, MEL Research, Tai Pawb a GIG Cymru (BIPALl).

Dyfarnwyd tystysgrifau i ddysgwyr o wahanol garfannau, gyda llawer yn symud ymlaen i’r NVQ Lefel 3 mewn Cyngor ac Arweiniad. Yn ogystal, fe wnaethom ddathlu’r rhai a gwblhaodd yr Ardystiad Cynorthwyydd Addysgu a gynigir mewn cydweithrediad â Chyngor Ffoaduriaid Cymru ac Addysg Oedolion Cymru.

Drwy ymgysylltu â’r tĂ®m yn yr Hyb BOOST, mae menywod o bob rhan o Went wedi gweithio’n galed i fagu hyder, i ddysgu sgiliau newydd a dysgu gwybodaeth am weithio yn y sector cyngor ac arweiniad.
– Gillian Wilde, Arweinydd TĂ®m Hyb BOOST

Nod y cwrs Dysgu i Gynghori yw arfogi unigolion gyda chymwysterau proffesiynol a phrofiad ymarferol i gefnogi’r rhai sy’n wynebu heriau megis tlodi, y system cyfiawnder troseddol ac ecsbloetiaeth. Y nod yw grymuso dysgwyr i ddod yn ddelfrydau ymddwyn a chreu newid cadarnhaol yn eu cymunedau. Llongyfarchiadau i’r dysgwyr ar eu gwaith caled a’u cyflawniad!

Mae’n wych cael cydnabyddiaeth am fy ymdrechion yn ffurfiol drwy gael fy nhystysgrif, roeddwn i’n teimlo’n falch iawn.
– Dysgwr Dysgu i Gynghori

Nid oedd cwblhau’r cwrs Dysgu i Gynghori yn ymwneud â chyrraedd y llinell derfyn yn unig – roedd am dderbyn pob her a dod allan yn gryfach ac yn ddoethach ar yr ochr arall. Mae’r cwrs wedi rhoi’r hyder i mi ysbrydoli a chefnogi eraill i wneud newidiadau cadarnhaol yn eu bywyd, fel yr wyf wedi gwneud fy hun.
